영원을 조각내어 만든 시간
Breaking Off Time from the Eternal
500 cm  x 800 cm, thread, 170lb, netting
2021-22

Beginning as a large thread sculpture, this work eventually evolved into the form of a large animal fur and lion mask. This artwork began with me remembering the image of my dog BoBo while tying together pieces of yarn. Traditionally, in Korea, uncut spools of yarn were seen as symbolic representations of “long life” and “eternity.” For me, cutting this “eternity” into pieces of yarn the length of a hand was a performative act emphasizing that time is finite. Moreover, while continually adding pieces of yarn to the sculpture, I felt the desire to invite others in and create a new “heartbeat.”
