Humming is a single-channel video that combines footage documenting the nurturing process of life, growth, and death of Impatiens balsam flowers in the United States, along with animated drawings.
The video delves into the traditional relationship Korean women have had with these flowers, using them to dye their nails as organic manicures for over 1,000 years. The narrative traces the flower's shifting symbolism, from its association with invasion and war during the Japanese occupation to its role in waiting for first love, while also overlapping with the artist’s own transition from her homeland to the United States.
